When you walk down the fruit aisle in the grocery store, you may be tempted to pick up a few apples for the entire family, because they look ‘oh so fresh and juicy’. However, that can be far from the truth, as apples that look fresh, may not really be, they could be up to a year old.

Apples found in super markets are known to be plucked unripe, treated with chemicals, waxed, boxed and then refrigerated, sometimes for over a year, so that you can have access to ‘fresh’ apples all year round.

Why is it bad?
When you buy these apples, thinking constantly that this fresh fruit is going to do good to you and to your family’s health as well, however, this is not true. When you take a bite off that apple, or when you feed it to your little one, you are actually biting in to an apple, that was picked a year ago, tampered with chemicals and then stored in a cold room. So, you are not really gaining any of the nutrients that the body should actually receive.

Apples are known for their great dietary fiber content and the natural sugars, but what they are also good for are polyphenols – rich antioxidants that offer a host of health benefits to the body. After a year, these are deprived of the all these nutrients, and do you no good, in fact, do you a bit of harm.

What you should do!
The key rule you should remember is that sooner the apples reach your plate from the time of harvest, the better. So, try and purchase your supply of apples from a farmer. In season apples ripen between the months of August and September.

So, why risk your health, choose to purchase only fresh, in season apples, to achieve the best results that apples are suppose to bring with them. Speak with a Registered Holistic Nutritionist as well as a Homeopath, so that you can truly, lead a healthy life by following the right natural diet.
