While some of us travel only for leisure, others travel for both business and leisure. Irrespective of what the reason may be, traveling, even if it’s a short flight could take a toll on your mental, physical and emotional health. The only way to deal with a stressful journey is to be prepared. We list down a few ways in which you can take good care of your health and enjoy stress free travel.

Stay Hydrated
It is important that you stay hydrated, especially when travelling by air. The environment inside an aircraft, as compared to sea level has 66% less water. This makes it drier than a desert, which could cause dry mouth, eyes and nose dizziness, headaches, dehydration and infections as well.

To avoid dehydration, drink plenty of water before you travel and throughout your journey as well. Keep a moisturizer or mist handy to moisten your lips.

Pack a meal
While the food you find on your travel may tempt you, you should know that it may do little for your health. You need to boost your immune system and you can do so my consuming food that is nutrient rich. This will help you fight off infections that you may contract during your travels.

Pack travel friendly fruits when you travel. A salad, some fresh fruits, nuts, flaxseed crackers, homemade sushi, or anything else that is easy to carry and is rich in offering good health.

Protect your ears!
When traveling by air, the pressure in the cabin can tend to fluctuate, especially during take off and landing. During this time the Eustachian tubes inside our ears tend to open and close so as to match the pressure and this causes our ears to feel blocked. When you experience this, yawn, swallow or such on a cube of ice.

Ear plugs that help regulating pressure can also be used if you are experiencing extreme discomfort. these will help reduce the air pressure on the ear drum.

Move
Blood clots can form in the legs as a result of dehydration, low air pressure and little movement. You can avoid deep vein thrombosis or the formation of blood clots by staying as mobile as possible. Walk up and down the aisles, try some gentle yoga poses, flex your legs and feet to ensure that the blood keeps moving and no clot is formed.

Whenever you feel stressed, close your eyes and meditate a little and try some breathing exercises. Avoid consuming alcohol and caffeine when traveling, Carry supplements to keep you upbeat when you travel and when you reach your destination, indulge in some grounding – walk about a bit especially barefoot, and in grass or walk in to the sea if you are at a beachy destination.
