A study of homeopathic management of depression in Australia was published in Complementary Therapies in Medicine 2007; 15(3):199–206. The study was motivated by the consideration that “depression is considered to be one of the most common conditions for which patients seek assistance from complementary medicine practitioners.” Anxiety was the second most common condition treated by the homeopaths polled, and depression was the fifth; many cases included both anxiety and depression. 80% of patients used conventional medication along with homeopathy; 60% used other complementary therapies, counseling and psychotherapy chief among them. The authors concluded that “homoeopathy is excellent for the treatment of depression when there is concurrent use of counselling techniques.”
