In February 2007, NBC’s Today Show with Matt Lauer and Joy Bauer (nutritionist and Today Show contributor) discussed cold and flu remedies. Bauer noted that a new study on vitamin C published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that people taking 500 milligrams of vitamin C each day reduced their incidence of catching a cold by 66%. Lauer and Bauer also talked about the homeopathic remedy Oscillococcinum. “The research is somewhat promising [for Oscillococcinum],” Bauer said. “Two separate authors reviewed seven well-controlled studies, and it showed that it was able to reduce flu-like symptoms by about seven hours.” Bauer added that seven hours may not seem like much, but if you feel miserable, it can make a difference.
