What is dehydration?

When your body does not get the required amount of fluids of water that it needs, you are dehydrated. 60-80% of our body’s mass is made up of water so, if we do not consume enough water, you will start facing a bunch of issues. In order for the body to function optimally it is important that we consume enough water. The body will start sending you a host of signals when it is dehydrated and it is important that you notice them and take appropriate steps to stay hydrated and healthy.

Below are a few things you should take note of:

Your Head Hurts?

On a regular basis the body is using up essential liquids in the body, not just water but also minerals like potassium and sodium. When hydration levels in the body fall, a chemical reaction occurs in the body, which the brain tends to be sensitive to and this triggers headaches. As you start losing more water, the blood volume drops and lesser oxygen will flow in to your brain. This will lead to blood vessels dilating and your headache getting worse.

Constipation?

Water helps food waste move through the bowls and out of the body. When there is not enough water in system, your food waste will not be able to move as efficiently and lead to constipation.

You feel dizzy when you stand?

Blood volume and pressure will stop when there is not enough water in your system, leading you to feeling dizzy and light headed. You know you need water in your body when you stand up quickly and get that giddy feeling.

Constant Hunger?

You know you are dehydrated when a hearty meal does not fill you up and you wish for a snack just an hour or two after your meals.

Your pee is a little too yellow?

When your pee turns a darker shade of yellow you know it is time to fuel up on water.

A few other signs of dehydration include, feeling sleepy constantly, you do not sweat as much, you have a dry mouth, your skin is pale and you experience muscle cramps often.
