Among the hot topics presented at the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Annual Winter Meeting was New York facial plastic surgeon Andrew Jacono, MD, FACS’s presentation about his quick recovery face lift procedure, which combines minimal-incision techniques and homeopathic medicine performed under a local anesthetic rather than the traditional general anesthetic. General anesthesia can cause major physiologic changes, such as bruising, swelling, and vomiting. Vomiting can lead to further trauma and torn sutures.
To reduce healing time, Jacono performs a short scar incision facelift (incisions are 1/4 the traditional size and are hidden in the natural curves of the ear). To speed recovery time, he starts patients on homeopathic Arnica montana and the supplement bromelain (an enzyme from pineapple root) three days before the surgery.
