Are you one of those who are inflicted with cold sores regularly? It is important that you learn what is causing these outbreaks. The food that you are consuming could be causing the virus to flare up.
Also known as Herpes, these are caused by viral infections that tend to be recurrent in nature, they are caused by a virus known as HSV or Herpes Simplex Virus. There are two of these viruses – HSV 1 and HSV 2. HSV 1 generally manifests around the mouth or nose and HSV 2 will appear below the belt. It could appear the other way around as well.
90% of adults have the virus, however symptoms may surface only years after the infection. The bad news is that even if you do not have symptoms, the disease could be transmitted, through body secretions such as saliva.
These tend to look like pimples, but they look much worse that that. They could appear anywhere from the lips to the nostrils and the genital area and may take up to two weeks to heal. These blisters are painful for sure, but they also tend to have an impact on one’s self esteem.
Stress is definitely a trigger for an outbreak, but food also plays a very important role.
In order to fight these outbreaks, you need to consume foods that are high in Lysine and low in arginine. These foods include: Fish, eggs, avocado, organic milk, organic plain yogurt, goat’s milk, cheese, protein (lamb, duck, turkey, beef and poultry), whey protein (good quality) and fresh fruits and vegetables (mangoes, figs, beetroot, papaya and pears).
Foods that are high in arginine and low in lysine that should be avoided when you experience an outbreak include: Brown rice, gelatin, lentils, whole wheat and wheat flour, nuts and nut butters, oats, chocolate and carob and beans.
What you may note is that the foods included in the list that you should avoid are highly nutritious and eliminating them completely may impact your overall health. So, be sure to speak with a Registered Holistic Nutritionist or get in touch with a Homeopath to learn how you can turn your life around by treating these cold sores naturally through healthy food.
