Sweet potatoes, yams or potatoes
When you keep potatoes in cold temperature the starch in them starts turning in to sugar. This tends to affect the texture of the vegetable and they also start tasting sweet. Store potatoes in a place that are cool and dry, preferably in a paper or canvas bag. Also, make sure that they are stored away from onions, as they give out a gas that could cause the onions to decay.
Tomatoes
When stored in cold temperatures, tomatoes will not ripen and this will ruin their consistency as well as taste. Tomatoes love the heat and they detest the cold. Tomatoes should be stored on countertops away from direct sunlight and should be enjoyed fresh.
Tropical Fruits
Fruits like papayas, bananas, pineapple and mangoes are sensitive to the cold. The cold tends to weaken their tissues, canceling out their enzymes and do not allow them to mature, causing a loss of flavor and damage to the surface.
Avocado, olive oil, honey, onions, garlic, aromatic herbs, basil and coffee too should not be kept in the refrigerator to ensure that their integrity is maintained.
