Get more minerals from your drinking water
Human beings must hydrate, so why not do it with more nutrients in the water?
(NC)-Nutritionists reminds us that the human body loses 1.5 to 2.0 litres of fluids every day and that includes the loss of important minerals. Metabolic function relies on a healthy mineral balance in the blood stream, and so do vital organs. By the laws of nature, food and drink must be the supplier of these minerals since the body does not produce them itself. It makes sense therefore to use the nutrient information available on product labels so that ever thing we eat and drink counts.
“If you’re going to drink up to two litres of water every day anyway, why not drink one with a high mineral content?” says Joern Koehnenkamp, a director at one of the leading brands, Apollinaris. “There are so many more benefits for doing this,- as well as the assurance of minerals. For example, naturally carbonated spring water is alkaline and that makes it a perfect partner for neutralizing the acids in food and coffee and wine. This fact is why so many Europeans crack open sparkling mineral water as a staple with their meals.”
Calcium, potassium, magnesium
Calcium is an important requirement for strong bones – and this is equally true for other minerals too, like potassium and magnesium.
“Magnesium especially, should never be an after thought considering the primary health benefits it delivers to the body,” Koehnenkamp continued. “An accumulation of research is pointing to magnesium for: stronger bones (even reversing osteoporosis); better heart health; lowering blood pressure; relieving urinary incontinence; easing asthma, migraines, and leg cramps – and for diabetes control. Magnesium also helps the body absorb calcium so it doesn’t stick in your muscles, kidneys, arteries and joints.”
In spring water, the magnesium content is produced when rainwater is filtered through various layers of stone, gravel and sand well below the ground. Over time it collects there and is largely protected from environmental activity.
“At the Apollinaris spring in Germany, this process has produced its legendary, well-balanced mineral content with mild carbonization, making it an extremely refreshing and healthy drink. Indeed, in 1879, even the British Medical Journal called it “the queen of table waters” and by 1900, it was selling 27 million bottles worldwide.”
