Caustic or corrosive chemicals can badly damage the skin, especially the eyes. Industrial chemicals are not the only culprits; many potentially dangerous chemicals are used in the home.

Be sure not to contaminate yourself when dealing with chemical burns. Damaged skin will be red stinging, and may erupt in blisters. A damaged eye will be painful, red, swollen, and watering. Wash away the chemical by holding the affected part or eye under gently running water. Then treat as for Burns & Scalds.
