You’ve eaten a hearty meal, but a few hours after, you start feeling those nagging hunger pangs again. They hit you when you are deep in to a project or watching telly at home or you are out at the mall. It happens to the best of us, but why?

Just maybe, you did not eat enough!
Lunch should be one of the bigger meals of the day. You may have eaten healthy, but did you eat enough. In your tries to eat a healthy diet, you may have lost out on eating a balanced diet, which keeps you satiated. Maybe that’s why you are still hungry. Healthy does not mean less, foods like quinoa and sweet potato help fill you up and also keep your energy levels high.

Are you skimping on fat and protein
Proteins and healthy fats help you feel satiated. You cannot ignore these, they go hand in hand. If you have indulged in a lunch that is high on carbs and sugar, you may definitely feel energetic, but it will die down soon. Simply because carbs and sugars get digested by the system relatively quickly. Proteins and fats take longer to get digested and therefore, you can continuous bursts of energy.

You were not paying attention
Being distracted while eating you meal can be one of the causes of you not eating well and therefore you may feel hungry soon after. Eating at our desks has become and occupational hazard and this is one of the main reasons why one could feel hungry soon after eating lunch.

Did you eat too fast?
We have deadlines to meet, and other things to do, and invariably we end up eating faster than our body needs. When you eat too fast, the body does not receive the ‘I’m full’ signal. Your body needs at least 20 minutes to know that it is full.

If you eat in 5 minutes, your body is not getting the time it needs to know it is full and therefore soon after lunch is over, bang, you are hungry again.
