We love foods that are fried, somehow they just taste better, however, most of us feel that way because we have not tried the healthier alternatives for the same foods. If you wish to lead a long and healthy life, cutting down on fried and fatty foods is a smart idea.

Frying otherwise healthy foods such as fish, chicken, potatoes and vegetables is not the best way to work towards providing your body strength. While grilling foods at high temperatures too is not a great idea as well, due to the formation of cancer causing compounds. Eating fried foods tends to dull one’s taste buds as well and it can lead to muting flavors as well.

So, go ahead and cut the fat, and you can still retain a beautiful golden brown crust by baking as apposed to frying.

Chicken Cutlets
Frying chicken means that you are converting lean meat into great tasting but fattening foods.

Eating chicken baked is much better; you can still make the most amazing crispy chicken cutlets through a process that is known as dry frying. This allows you to cook great cutlets with less that half the calories you would otherwise consume and also reducing the fat to a mere fraction. To create that crispy crust you would have to coat your chicken cutlets with egg white and then Panko, which is a Japanese Breadcrumb, make sure that you have jagged pieces so that forming a crispy crust is easier. Simply heat a skillet to medium and then cook the chicken for about six – eight minutes till you get a golden brown crust. You could also bake it in the oven, with just a drizzle of oil.

Eggplant
If you wish to add on calories even when you eat healthy vegetables, then you should fry eggplants. However, this is not necessary and you can indeed enjoy some great eggplant baked finger foots with shreds of cheese as well. All you have to do is paint it with some egg whites, cover it with panko and drizzle some oil and place it in an oven tray and into the oven for about 10 – 15 minutes, and you will get glorious finger food that is healthy in no time.

Fish
Let’s face it there is nothing like good old fried fish, however, if you want to extract health from fish, frying it is not the best option. Bake flaky white fish like cod or catfish as they cook rather quickly and this way you can maintain the health quotient in them as well. The process remains the same as that for chicken.

Cheese
Originally eaten as a pre-meal dish, today cheese is lapped up by millions when it is deep-fried. The same crispy on the outside and melting on the inside can be achieved by baking cheese as well. The format again remains the same as highlighted above for chicken, eggplant and fish.
